DR. LAURA HAUERWAS IS A DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR OF EDUCATION AT PROVIDENCE COLLEGE, WITH AN UNWAVERING COMMITMENT TO ADVANCING THE FIELD OF EDUCATION THROUGH RESEARCH AND INNOVATION. WITH EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE IN BOTH TEACHING AND RESEARCH, SHE HAS DEDICATED HER CAREER TO EDUCATING FUTURE TEACHERS AND IMPROVING EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES FOR STUDENTS.

Dr. Hauerwas earned her Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders, specializing in language development and language-based disabilities, which laid the foundation for her passion for developing evidence-based practices to enhance the educational experience for students. Her exceptional academic background and dedication to her field have earned her recognition as a leading expert in education – and recognized for her commitment to preparing culturally responsive and globally conscious educators.

As the director of the Scaling Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) project, Dr. Hauerwas has secured an $11.3 million expansion grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This groundbreaking project focuses on the implementation and student outcomes of teachers using SRSD to teach the writing process, with an emphasis on developing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) capacities.

In collaboration with SRSD Online, Dr. Hauerwas is working to provide professional learning opportunities to cohorts of schools across the United States from 2023 to 2025. Her leadership in this project showcases her dedication to empowering educators and students through innovative, research-based approaches to teaching. In addition to her work on the SRSD project, Dr. Hauerwas is involved in various educational initiatives and serves as a mentor to her fellow educators.
